These are photos taken on the plane, or the train, or en route to wherever. I treasure them more than most, because the transformation from motion to still captures something special, and the memories evoked in retrospect are of something more than a time and place, a passage remembered, a feeling of transition.

Jeremiah Chechik - On a plane with me, upstairs on a 747, one of our favorite ways to fly around the world, here on a flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles. Using the Picturebook's camera.

Dagfinn Bach - Here's Dagfinn with me on a train from Brussels, Belgium, to Luxembourg, and we're testing the camera on my then-new Picturebook. Dagfinn is from Norway, was a music educator and now runs Artspages, an organization focused on music and art, especially in China. Dagfinn was also on a panel on global music I moderated at the 2002 Future of Music Conference.

Theodore Lenssen - Ted Lenssen is a creative force in Amsterdam, and reminds me of a European Jeremiah Chechik. Or maybe Jeremiah is a Canadian Ted Lenssen. Regardless, Ted is wonderful fun and raw energy. Here's Ted on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles in December 1999.

Jim in Finland - In this photo I am on a boat near Savonlinna in Finland (July 2000), guest of Nokia, on one of four trips to Finland last year. I love Finland, and am looking for a chance to live there, if only for a time. One of Finland's many virtues is clean air, pure water and a countryside that is pristine, as you can see in the background of this photo.
